You could really just go with the previous version

After I rented this book, my professor said that we could've just gone with the previous version (6th Edition) because it contains the exact same information with negligible changes to the content. Would've been nice if the professor mentioned this before I rented the book and saved me some money, But glad Amazon rents textbooks and very comparable prices.

I agree with this book

The reason I say that I agree with this book is because a majority of this book that informed of what I should do as a supervisor was what I would have already done in that situation so for me the only things I learned from this book was the technical terms for what some things were called and some laws involving ethics. this means to me that either A this book is filled with relatively common knowledge or B I would just make an awesome supervisor because my instinctual thought process gives me all the right answers. I would recommend renting this book before you make the decision of buying it. I wont be buying this book because laws and technical terms was the only thing it helped me with in that case I believe I can find a better book but if you need help deciding what to do as a supervisor then perhaps this book is meant for you.

This textbook is informative and easy to read. The information about Supervisors encompasses real-life situations in the workplace. I recommend this book for college-level instruction, and for personal enlightenment.

Enjoyable

It had a lot of stories I had already read but it was nice revisiting. The stories are written in the old style - no guts and sex, some of them could have done with more in the endings especially the max carrados ones but all in all good

A great bargain for the content.

A very nice collection of detective stories. As expected in this type of collection the stories vary in depth, styles and characters. Some stories moved faster than others, again, just as one would expect in this type of a collection. It is very well worth the read. I didn't find not a one story that I was tempted to just skip over. So all in all it was a great bargain in my book. (excuse the pun)
It is nice too, for when you don't want to get involved in a "book". The stories satisfy without the worry of a long long story line.

Mixed Bag

Without much ado, let me get into the crux of the matter: This is a mixed bag of stories, combining some good ones of Max Carrados (author: Ernest Bramah), Mr. Mitchell (author: Rodrigues Ottolengui) and C. Auguste Dupin (author: EA Poe) with really uninteresting ones, some of which are:
- The Amateur: Obvious bungling
- The Countess of Lowndes Square: Tedious writing with denouement seen from a mile off
- The Blackmailer of Park Lane: Tedious and obvious
- Oscar The Detective: Unenjoyable, long-winded and bad writing
- The Ponsonby Diamonds: Emotional drama masquerading as a detective story - IMO, the least worthy in this collection

Instead of this, go for the individual works of the characters mentioned above - Mitchell, Max and Dupin - then, one will be better off. It is due to their presence, this book gets 3 stars.

Great, twisted, fun

I ran this adventure for a game group I had in Winter Park, Florida.

It was a very challenging module for them but they had a blast. The characters were great fun and especially "Tom, the Tome of Tales", who ironically made reappearances throughout my campaign after the PCs escaped from him in the first place. Lots of shenanigans, laughs, and serious fights broke out throughout the entire adventure. Give it a chance, you won't be disapointed.

The cure to insomnia.

So far, this has been the worst textbook I have ever been assigned. During the first week of class we were assigned the first three chapters to read. These chapters alone totaled 94 pages filled with paragraphs from the header to the footer. I literally fell asleep 3 times trying to get through the first ten pages. The reviewer who described this book as pedantic and needlessly technical said it best. It seems like every single sentence in every single paragraph on every single page is packed with information to the point that every paragraph has to be reread two or three times just to understand what it is talking about. This makes the already interminable book seem to be 5x longer. If I didn't need these credit hours I would drop the whole class just because of this textbook, it's that bad.

Dense and Inscrutable

This is probably the least interesting book you'll ever read. I was required to buy it for medical school. I couldn't make through the first twenty pages awake. The material presented is written in needlessly technical and pedantic language. While it succeeds in offering a theoretical discussion of ethics (especially it's history), the early pages don't do a good job at substantiating them with applicable examples. I hope the rest of the book gets better, because at this rate, I don't know how I'm gonna glean anything from it.

Good Insight

Provides a great insight into the history of Germany and its architecture. Was required to buy it for my foreign study abroad class and ended up greatly enjoying it. Lots of great insights and extremely in depth view on the significance of Nazi architecture and its current impacts. Additionally my Host mom loved the perspective it provided and enjoyed reading it. Not to long of a read and excellent chapter divisions. You get a lot of information for a fair price.

Loved this book. Provides a wonderful overview of the history of Berlin. Especially appreciated the conflicts over time in the role of the Jews, Communists, Western powers and dealing with the ramifications of the Hitler years.

A city comes to terms with its past

This is a brilliant book that looks at a remarkable city after the fall of the Berlin Wall and asks the question: How to come to terms with the monuments of the past? The Brandenburg Gate? Hitler's Bunker, etc. Should they be torn down, the stories they embody erased? Or should they stand as a legacy of German culture, however tainted it may be. A remarkable book about a remarkable city. Do read it.
