I defy anyone not to love it as much as I did...

And my goodness, this book was wonderful - and although being a soggy and sobbing mess at the end of it might not be everyone's idea of a "wonderful read", it's most certainly mine. Strangely though, the first chapter almost put me off (I mention this only in case it does the same to you...) with the last minute preparations for Zoe's wedding, and her "will I/won't I". But the book then becomes something different altogether. Enter Gina, Zoe's mother - a mother she hasn't seen in a long time, but whose phone call is enough to force her to make some very difficult choices.

There was so much I loved about this book that I hardly know where to start. As an account of Gina's decline - with all the challenges and problems that brings - it's quite superbly handled. And it's not mawkish or morbid, just exceptionally moving. At times it can be very funny, as Gina's behaviour becomes increasingly extreme - but then you catch yourself laughing, and it often turns into a sob instead. The deep, dark secrets that underlie the fractured relationship between mother and daughter slowly unfold, and it's really quite a story. The clear love of a mother for her daughter - and, despite everything, the love of a daughter for her mother - makes you feel warm inside, but also absolutely breaks your heart.

I loved the structure of the book too. Letters from mother to daughter, sent on successive birthdays, tell the story of their relationship and the perceived betrayal that fractured it. The letters are in a clear voice, with real humour in the early ones, but with a devastating sadness pervading the later ones - and they add extra poignancy to the continuing decline we're watching in the present day story. They also tell a fascinating story of families and how the complex relationships can work but can also break down - and it's simply fascinating too to see how those family dynamics are working in the present day. And in the background, there's always the story of Zoe's relationship with the simply lovely Jamie - and the fading hope that they can recover the love they had.

This book was desperately sad, but at the same time totally beautiful and uplifting. One that everyone should read, I think... I defy anyone not to love it as much as I did.

the love of her life

Zoe is about to marry Jamie, the love of her life, when she receives a phone call from her mother's friend saying that she needs her. Zoe is estranged from her mother, they haven't seen each other for 10 years and she wasn't invited to the wedding so why would Zoe drop everything, leave Jamie at the alter and run to her mother.

Gina was in the police station after being arrested for shop lifting but as soon as Zoe saw her she realised that there was something wrong, her mother seemed forgetful and not quite there but she still cannot forgive her for the past.

With no husband, no honeymoon and her life in a mess Zoe realises that she has to do something about her mother and when she keeps getting distraught phone calls in the middle of the night she decides the best option is to move her into her spare room where she can keep an eye on her but it is not that easy. With her work and business suffering she persuades Gina to go and see a doctor and she is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers.

This is a very emotional book showing how a family can pull together despite the past, we learn about the early years of Zoe's life and Gina's side of the story by a series of letters that she wrote every year on Zoe's birthday and there is one at the end of each chapter - which is a great way to fill in the history. Not my normal type of book but I really enjoyed it and couldn't put it down

eBook Digital Lesson files - Calm down everyone!

This training book, to my mind, achieves exactly what it sets out to and does it well. It's an alternative for users who don't want to plow through a software manual and want to just start using the program. It's a 'learn by do' approach. For practically minded or creative people, this is a great way to get started with After Effects. The projects are really only B or C grade from an artistic point of view, but they're stimulating enough and it's really about the possibilities and seeing how you achieve things that your imagination can conjure. To make really cool stuff you need to visit the websites of advanced designers's tutorial [...]

This book is beautifully laid out, very clear and logical and fun to work through, even for those familiar with the program - a lot has been added in the last few editions.

So anyway, on to the eBook lesson file issue that is causing such controversy on Amazon. This solution is good for all Classroom in a Book editions of CS5 programs. I'm assured by the publisher PeachPit that ALL of the CS5 Classroom in a Book eBook editions ship with links to the lesson files which can be easily downloaded from the publisher website.

All Adobe Classroom in a Book Tutorials

All Adobe Classroom in a Book tutorials are well written and are designed primarily for the new user of that particular program. The one thing the books don't give you, that you must supply yourself, is patience! If you think you're going to open the book, do a few things and move on, you're wrong from the start. If you are patient and understand programs like PhotoShop, Premiere, After Effects etc won't be quickly learned, you'll do well. You must follow each instructive step to the letter and it will work. Believe me, they're not going to publish a book that hasn't been reviewed and re-reviewed many times for errors. You must be patient and read everything to the letter and do it to the letter. Don't move on to the next step until you can do the step you're on. You need to do each lesson more than once by following the book, then you do it yourself without the book. If you do something wrong, refer back to the book. Don't move on to the next lesson until you are sure you are "competent" in the lesson you are on. You won't learn any of these programs overnight. I learned PhotoShop well by reading the book carefully, following each step as outlined and then re-doing it several times. Then when I was sure I understood that lesson, I moved on to the next one. Please, don't blame well written books for your own impatience. I know we are in the age of "entitlement" where the thought is everything should happen "now", but the real world isn't like that. Learn some patience first and then and only then, will you be able to follow any Classroom in a Book series.

Take your time with this

I agree with the other reviewers in general as to this being a decent book for learning AF and doing it by lessons. But each of us learns differently so for me the best way was to go very slowly and do exactly as described in each lesson plan. When I say exactly, I mean make sure your layout, panels, etc. as well as where each panel is docked look like in the lessons. By a few lessons into the book, the author instructs you to do something and he doesn't re-explain it over and over (it is assumed that you know what step to take and the author states this in the beginning of the book) otherwise it would take up book space and lesson time repeating something over and over. Expect 2-3 times depending on the steps, lesson.

It can be overwhelming if you skip something and thus it can be frustrating when you don't see the same results (of the lesson). Say if you use your own Text font for example instead of the Text font used in the lesson, then you may get off-track and thus not see the results as the lessons was designed. I used Text fonts as an example because you may not see the same applied Effect(s) as was used in the lesson. Also, I tried to step forward on some steps and thus got lost in the end (my fault).

The more I have been using AF, the more everything has come together and I can see how the steps I take results in the final desired outcome. To me, the book was a great way to learn AF. But it's not going to teach me everything; I use other tools (media, etc.) to learn much more.

About the Author
Dominic Tierney is an associate professor of political science at Swarthmore College and holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from Oxford University. He is a senior fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, a former visiting associate professor at Princeton University, a former research fellow at Harvard University, and the author of three books, including How We Fight and Failing to Win, which won the International Studies Association "Best Book of the Year" Award and was nominated for its "Best Book of the Decade" Award.

An original and thought-provoking read

I read an advanced copy over the weekend (which is exactly the same as the final version). First, the book is completely original. I don’t know of any other books about what to do if a war turns into a quagmire. It reads like a survival guide. But instead of a zombie invasion, it’s a U.S. military disaster. America is such a victory culture that we haven’t noticed that we stopped winning wars a long time ago. Nearly all major conflicts since 1945 (Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq) were either stalemates or defeats. One of the many ironies highlighted by Tierney is that the U.S. started losing wars after 1945, just as the country became a superpower. The book is full of compelling stories of loose nukes in Algeria, the War of 1812 being a near-disaster (not what we were taught in high school), and the U.S. bizarrely negotiating for weeks over the shape of the negotiating table in Vietnam. If the war on ISIS goes south, the president might need to get a copy.

This is not a book about the methods of counter-insurgency warfare (such as the Accidental Guerrilla or Eating Soup with a Knife). Rather, it looks at the how to create the right policies for wars that may not have the same priority on national resources as we were willing to commit to the Second World War.

In this book the author ruthlessly examines the changes in U.S. wars since the end of the Second World War. His points are no less profound for being straightforward from the evidence. He correctly looks at the importance of what happens after a battlefield victory - something that was integral to the planning in most of our victories in what he refers to as the "Golden Age." The U.S. government began detailed planning for the post-war stabilization of Japan in early 1942. Post-war stabilization was an important part of General Winfield Scott's campaign in central Mexico in the Mexican-American War. In comparison, the U.S. began detailed planning for the post-war stabilization of Afghanistan only after we gained control of the country. The timeline was tighter in Iraq, but detailed post-war stabilization planning only really began in mid-2003, months after we had toppled the Saddam Hussein regime.

Dr. Tierney's solutions are flexible rather prescriptive - which makes sense, since "unwinnable" conflict have some general similarities, but their details vary a great deal.

The Right Way to Lose a War is a much needed contribution to the literature. Tierney rightly points out that any future military campaign that requires the long-term presence of U.S. ground troops in a foreign theater is likely to become an unwinnable war. Tierney's unique contribution is that he offers a prudent way to get out of these quagmires: the strategy of Surge, Talk, and Leave. Candidates seeking the Oval Office in 2016 should read this book!

Illuminating Work on Orthodox Christianity and Science

Archbishop Lazar is a prolific writer and speaker, and this work did not disappoint. As with other works coming from the Archbishop and his Press, this book is in need of editing. There may be some hard copies of better quality, but the kindle edition needs some work. For instance, the font size varies, as does the color, the footnotes are awkwardly placed, etc. All this, though, does not take away from the important content of the book. For those who have questions about the relationship between science and faith in general, and Orthodox Christianity's relationship with modern (quantum) physics, this is a very helpful and important book. Trained as a physicist and well versed in Orthodox theology, Archbishop Lazar explains the current state of affairs between science and (Western) Christianity and why there is so much tension between the two. The Archbishop then goes on to explain the overlap between quantum physics and Orthodoxy and why they compliment one another. The universe is a much more mysterious and wonderfully complicated place than we humans could have possibly imagined in the past, and it is good to see how the best science available reflects the teachings of the ancient Orthodox Church in more ways than one would think. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is curious about the ongoing science/ faith controversy, which after reading Archbishop Lazar, one will see why there should be no controversy at all.

Must read for people who are interested in QM and religion.
Also, very nice to read a words of reason in a world where fundies are trying extremely hard to destroy other people's work simply because they have different opinions, sad and very un-christian, as always in fundies case.

***** 5 STARS ***** I have never cried this hard. EVER. Loved every second of this journey!By Michelle New�on December 15, 2015I didn't expect to make it through book three without scars. I knew this book was going to be a hard read. I was wrong. It was so much more than just hard.

You are given every piece of this story from the character. It is written in HER voice. Nothing is narrated. Nothing is shaped for the purpose of structure - it is the character you feel in everything. The crazy moments, the happy moments. Nothing about the word selection, phrasing exists without it being a part of the character. This is something that you'll come to realize as you go further into the story, but I do admit that it can be distracting, but I can't urge you to stick with it, because it is so worth it and it all comes together in such a genius way.

This is usually one of my sticking points with books. I want the character to feel 100% real and that means that their voice has to remain authentic.

We are US brings us to the closing of the story of Suzanne and Z. We've seen their struggle from page one and I was pulling so hard for these two to find their happiness. I won't go into the aspects of their past or even most of the details included in the conclusion. But I will tell you that I can't remember crying more during reading a book in my life. Both happy and sad tears were shed. The kind of crying that is silent, but leave your body shaking. The kind that freaks your husband the EFF out because he can't fix whatever is wrong with you.

One aspect of this story is the battle of depression. Now for Suzanne that battle did not come out of the blue. It has always been there. I think the way Sarah tackled this subject was done beautifully. This was a very tough part of the story for me to read for my own personal struggles and rarely do I come across a book that features this theme and come close to describing the way it feels. For me, this one hit pretty close to home and I broke apart completely during the scenes that unfolded during these events. But at the same time, it almost was healing as it sort of justified these foreign feelings that stay trapped in your head that you can never find the right words to describe.

There were so many parts of this book that tore me to shreds. But this was not all about those sad, devastating times. There were so many moments where I was so darn proud of Suzanne for everything she overcame and for how she pulled herself together. The journey from Her to Suzanne was amazing to watch.

Z, well. Can we just call him perfect? I loved watching him interact with her with such kindness and it broke my heart watching him be pushed to his limits. He loved her so much. He put up with all of her crazy and he just wanted to protect her and give her so much more than what she thought she was worth. It was a battle. Every. Darn. Day.

I always feel like the evil friend when I tell people they need to read this book. Because I know that it will push them to the breaking point. But the experience is so worth it. I have not walked away from a single book from this author that has not stayed with me. I may walk away from the book bruised, but it is always worth it. And these are characters, stories that I will never forget.

Be prepared to expect a wild ride. This is not a romance that is going to deliver hearts and flowers. But make no mistake, this is a love story. It is all about the love that is shared between these two people and how far you are willing to go for the person who owns your heart.

To the author: my first book of yours left me a ranting mess and you've done it to me over and over again and I keep coming back. And I will always continue to come back. Because I know you are going to give me a story that is always worth the pain and I wouldn't have it any other way..�

My words could never do this story justice. I am not a cryer, not in real life and never with books. I may get teary eyed on a rare occasion with the right story, but never in my life have I ugly cried like I did while reading this devastatingly beautiful story. These books brought out every emotion I posses. From heartache, to happiness and everything in between. There were even times I had enough of Suzanne's bs and was like enough already. There were so many times I was caught off guard and thought, "wow, never saw that coming." I love stories that shock me at every turn leaving me flipping pages like a maniac so I can find out what happens next. I literally couldn't put any of these books down. Not even for a much needed sip of water or bathroom break. They're just that good. I realize this kind of story isn't for everyone. There's some seriously awful s*** from Suzanne's past. But for me I'd have to say this is by far my favorite read ever. I will NEVER forget this story. Thank you Sarah for giving us a little piece of you in the form of Suzanne and Z. Brilliant!

Sarah you are my new crush.
You finished this series with a bang.
I loved the first two and loved this even more.
Susanne and Z are just.........F@cked up.
I mean they are. It's the truth.
These two trying to make it together is fantastic.

But they seem to be failing.
When things are good they are great, but when they go bad it's destruction.

If you are looking for a read that takes you into the mind of someone with mental health issues this is it. It seemed so real...too real.

God, I love this book. �I love Suzanne and Z, and I'm so happy I could give them a little peace from the nightmares that will forever haunt.

My Daughter won't be HER !!

The final book in the series and clearly the hits on Suzanne and Z , just keep on coming !!
It was depressive in the sense that I wanted to scream , " God !!!! Give them a Break !!"
Suzanne , I think broke down more in this book than previous ones, because after tasting happiness, it's more tough to get back to emptyness.
When faced with a challenge , Her first instinct is to abandon everyone and hide in her comfortable cloak of misery. This what she does in the beginning, till Z catches her. She's trying to step back and away from it all. She feels so miserable that she conveniently blames it on her self and sets to take the easy way out.
But you can't quit life till you're breathing...right !
With the help of Mack ,Kaylas and Z ( Gawd, this man is a saint !!) She again starts to stand back up and in few months grabs life with her hands, she finds happiness again and falls pregnant. Little bumps on the road but she births a beautiful baby girl.
But a witch (Elizabeth) is waiting in wings to destroy her life
why can't some people just roll over and die and do us all a favour !!!!
The baby is snatched from her and as expected, suzanne's delicate mental balance upsets and she lashes out, yet again at everybody.
Z meanwhile fights the authorities , her bitch of a mother, cops, child services and gets back their daughter.
Suzanne truly becomes a mother, stepping away for Mackenzie's sake , so she doesn't have to be abandoned.
The emotions run like a river in this book. Happiness, depression, frustration, anger, undying love and biggest of all - Acceptance of Suzanne of Z's love !!
Phew ! Finally !!

Have you ever bought a book and just stared at it completely afraid to start it? Well this was that book. When I first started this series it was listed as a standalone and that was the cruelest thing ever. In all the things that ever was, ever will be. EVER. I died a little at the end of book one. I barely survived book two. I didn’t expect to make it through book three without scars. I knew this book was going to be a hard read. I was wrong. It was so much more than just hard.

Before I get into the story and all the feelings, I have to explain some of the aspects of what is expected when you open up yourself to the experience this author is going to take you on.

You don’t just read this book from the outside looking in. You are given every piece of this story from the character. It is written in HER voice. Nothing is narrated. Nothing is shaped for the purpose of structure – it is the character you feel in everything. The crazy moments, the happy moments. Nothing about the word selection, phrasing exists without it being a part of the character. We are US brings us to the closing of the story of Suzanne and Z. We’ve seen their struggle from page one and I was pulling so hard for these two to find their happiness. I won’t go into the aspects of their past or even most of the details included in the conclusion. But I will tell you that I can’t remember crying more during reading a book in my life. Both happy and sad tears were shed. The kind of crying that is silent, but leave your body shaking. The kind that freaks your husband the EFF out because he can’t fix whatever is wrong with you.

One aspect of this story is the battle of depression. Now for Suzanne that battle did not come out of the blue. It has always been there. I think the way Sarah tackled this subject was done beautifully. This was a very tough part of the story for me to read for my own personal struggles and rarely do I come across a book that features this theme and come close to describing the way it feels. For me, this one hit pretty close to home and I broke apart completely during the scenes that unfolded during these events. But at the same time, it almost was healing as it sort of justified these foreign feelings that stay trapped in your head that you can never find the right words to describe.

There were so many parts of this book that tore me to shreds. But this was not all about those sad, devastating times. There were so many moments where I was so darn proud of Suzanne for everything she overcame and for how she pulled herself together. The journey from Her to Suzanne was amazing to watch.

Z, well. Can we just call him perfect? I loved watching him interact with her with such kindness and it broke my heart watching him be pushed to his limits. He loved her so much. He put up with all of her crazy and he just wanted to protect her and give her so much more than what she thought she was worth. It was a battle. Every. Darn. Day.

I always feel like the evil friend when I tell people they need to read this book. Because I know that it will push them to the breaking point. But the experience is so worth it. I have not walked away from a single book from this author that has not stayed with me. I may walk away from the book bruised, but it is always worth it. And these are characters, stories that I will never forget.

Be prepared to expect a wild ride. This is not a romance that is going to deliver hearts and flowers. But make no mistake, this is a love story. It is all about the love that is shared between these two people and how far you are willing to go for the person who owns your heart.

To the author: my first book of yours left me a ranting mess and you’ve done it to me over and over again and I keep coming back. And I will always continue to come back. Because I know you are going to give me a story that is always worth the pain and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

A Satisfying Finale to an Amazing Series

This third book in the "I Am Her..." series further explores the lives of Suzanne and Z. Though this is a stand-alone story, I highly suggest that readers read the first two books to get a thorough understanding of Suzanne's tragic upbringing and Z's role in helping her to overcome her appalling past.

Tragic is the perfect word to describe Suzanne's life. Years of abuse--physical, mental and emotional--by people charged with caring and protecting her has left her battling her inner demons. She aches for happiness, longs for normality; but she is a broken woman.

This time around, life's pressures prove too difficult to cope with and Suzanne is ready to give up. The first half of the story deals with Suzanne's struggle to gain self-worth and embrace the unconditional love of her amazingly patient and devoted husband, Z. While the story is surely well-written and compelling, I have to admit that I grew frustrated by Suzanne's insecurities and senseless decisions. So many times, I had to suppress the urge to strangle her while at the same time, I felt the need to just hug her.

It was emotionally draining, but not in a bad way, mind you. You see, you have to understand Suzanne and her fragile state to truly appreciate her dilemmas. And I have to say, I truly love this crazy, screwed-up character that Sarah Ann Walker has ingeniously created.

The latter part of the story, in my opinion, is where Suzanne faces her ultimate test. Situations push her patience and sanity to the limit. I won't give anything away, but I feel that the author did a superb job wrapping up this bittersweet, emotional story. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey. Suzanne and Z (and even Mack and the Kaylas) will always be some of my all-time favorite characters.

Excellent job, Ms. Walker. This series is unforgettable.

His spirited and inspirational book is for anyone looking for the tools and secrets of success; anyone looking to win. Johnson grew up in New Orleans' Lafitte Housing Project and though he was never the biggest, the fastest, or the strongest, like many he dreamed that basketball was his ticket out. Johnson's journey is most inspiring because his success did not fit the script society wrote for him, but by strength of his will alone he was able to persevere and reach the NBA where he played for sixteen seasons. Now as a coach, his style takes into account the road that got him here and is a true outline for success on the court and in life. It revolves around two main themes; the first is the foundation for the Mavericks success and is called the 'S Plan' and based on three simple concepts: Standards, Safeguards, and Satisfaction. The second called the 'C Plan' is used to motivate his players into becoming championship leaders by taking on competence, strong character, clear communication, respect for colleagues, and caring.

About the Author
Avery Johnson was an NBA player for sixteen seasons, including a member of the 1999 Spurs Championship team. He is only the second player under 6-feet in height to play more than 1,000 games. At 5-11 and 180 pounds he was undrafted out of college, but signed as a free agent with the Seattle SuperSonics before being cut and then playing with San Antonio, Denver, Houston and back to San Antonio. He spent his last few seasons with the Denver Nuggets, Golden State, and signed with Dallas as a player/coach prior to the 2004-05 season, but decided to retire as player and concentrate on being an assistant coach before the season started. In 2006 he was named NBA Coach of The Year. He and his family live in Dallas.

Roy S. Johnson is a longtime SI editor and writer and he wrote Charles Barkley's first memoir. He lives in New York.

Fantastic!

I recommend this book to everyone from a teenager on, even to retirement age. It gives food for thought, gets you back on the road of your goals in life, and makes you realize you can accomplish anything your want, if the real desire is there.
I am not a sport fan, but Avery Johnson is a person that has a voice that makes you listen to what he has to say. When the sports comes on and I hear his voice, I stop and listen. I am so glad that he is using his life in a positive way, and when I heard that he had a book out, I had to buy it. Not only was I not disappointed, I want everyone in my family to read it. My Grand Children, as they are starting their lives in the world will benefit, if they will only listen to what he has to say and the other members of my family, it will give them a boast to keep on the right track and have patience!
A must read book for everyone!

Great Lessons to build on!!!

Avery Johnson was just another guy who got overlooked in life. He had determination and discipline to keep moving forward when things didn't always go his way. He bounced around from team to team, but he never gave up in God and in himself to succeed at a high level. It teaches us all that we are capable of great things as long as we stay focused, persevere and always look to God in all that we do.

Astonishing Overview But Very Advanced-- Dynamic Systems is the Missing Keyword

The "South African" trim size of this text is unusual at 6 x 9 x 1.5 (inches), so the hefty 620 pages makes for a compact but heavy package, of GREAT value! For context, I'm CTO of a calculus animation company, and we use a lot of the techniques in this manual in our daily programming, design and Engineering work, including teaching chips to learn math.

The authors keep using the words "we are keeping this simple, for beginners" when describing their (mostly C++ with some Java) code, but South African "beginners" must already have MIT Masters in Math, Engineering and Computer Science if that's the case! The volume is so PACKED with great information on these unusual topics that there really is little time or space for beginners, to be honest. For example, (p. 309), we're exploring Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions for optimization, and with little warning, in two pages, we jump into and out of linear programming, then partial derivatives.

Math has become so specialized that it is EXTREMELY RARE to find even advanced Engineers and Mathematicians that have as broad a background as this collection requires. That's also its value-- even if you're very good in only a couple areas (say, linear algebra and inequalities), you can look up what get's tough and use this as a foundation. This is NOT for self study, but rather as a reference and adjunct with help from other volumes that cover the many topics in more detail. I'm not sure how I'd structure a course around it, other than an outstanding "applied" introduction to nonlinear techniques for grad students.

For teachers, you might find the "tempo" of this text a little foreign, but interesting, and PACKED with example after example. The tempo is bang-bang-bang-see? The examples are given staccato one after another, then the authors take a breather to do a little explaining. As an example, the authors give a frequent example of fixed points in dynamical systems as f(x)=x using 4x(1-x) as an example. You pause, look at it, then solve the quadratic yourself for 0 and 3/4 roots. These are just given, then 13 pages later, an example of the quadratic steps (that you already did yourself) is then given!

What's not in the title, subject, keywords, intro, covers, etc. is the actual topic of the book: Dynamic Systems Modeling. There are many dynamic systems books out there, but this is the ONLY one we've found that covers such a broad range of topics with a lot of OOP code that works quite well. I'm guessing that the 4 previous editions helped work out kinks in the code, because very few of these fail to compile first time. Like some old Engineers that use C++ but only use the "C" pieces and not the OOP parts (data/setter-getter/methods), there is enough here even if you don't use a lot of OOP. But if you do, there also is plenty of Java to keep you happy. Some of the C++ reads like pseudo-code and is "symbolic C++" to give you the general idea of the algorithm's implementation rather than exact code. BUT there are HUNDREDS of worked out examples that do run flawlessly.

The applied nature of the coverage is the real value here. The authors do take the time to discuss how many of these models are practically applied TODAY. Finding a book rather than a journal article that does this is very rare. And the journals that do cover these topics only come out a few times a year and cost $400+ US for a subscription!

I can't really say this is for beginners, but right in the middle of a bunch of complex code and math, the authors suddenly get very basic and explain stuff at an undergrad level. Fun, curious, and rewarding, but still too complex for self study in my opinion, unless you have a tutor or are good at supplementing with other texts and tutorials. On the other hand, as a survey and practical reference to the pragmatic sides of fractals, chaos and other "hip" topics-- this is MUCH better than the usual "consumer" fare of a lot of speculation with no substance. This text/manual/handbook has substance in every sentence.
