Uninspired Catalogue Of African Art In Europe

Features more than 600 (small) b/w illustrations, over 800 items featured, bibliography and extensive notes. By Ezio Bassani, edited by Malcolm McLeod. Two different editions with two different cover DJ's, published by either The British Museum Press or Scholarly, 2000.
A thorough, well-researched, heavily annotated, but pendantically boring catalogue of African Art in European Collections, 1400-1800. Small, barely adequate b/w photos of hundreds of largely unremarkable African items, which contribute to a book with all the passion and fascination of a automobile repair manual. Includes a CD-ROM, which is a boring electronic version of the boring printed book. This work probably took a lifetime to compile, but that just makes it all the more sad.
