Romantic and charming!

This is a charming, witty, and moving collection of stories about John Watson and Sherlock Holmes meeting and falling in love. Different time frames, different settings, but a sense of beauty and rightness suffuses each encounter. Atlin is a delightful author, and she writes with both wit and emotion. Highly recommend!

Romance and Intrigue (And croissant)!

Friendship? Epic romance? Soul mates? True love? Yes please!

This collection of 19 short stories has all that in spades. The fact that the two principle characters are Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, well, can you imagine one without the other? That they fall in love make them even better. And by "them" I refer to both the stories and the men in them - they are two puzzle pieces who fill in each others missing bits.

Atlin knows there can be no place or time that these two don't meet and she happily shares her re-imaginings with us. From Victorian London to a future in Hong Kong, Holmes and Watson meet and fall in love. She knows her boys well and whether they are chasing through catacombs, sheltering in an empty house during the Blitz or fighting over the last pastry, Sherlock will deduce and John will heal. And they will fit.

A Great Read for fans of Holmes and Watson!

I ordered this the moment that I saw it was available. Atlin makes each story sing with the novel ways our beloved detective and his Boswell meet and fall in love.
At times funny, at times more serious, the stories are an intriguing and varied buffet of the ways they might have met. She is an amazing author and I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Homes and Watson and their friendship.

Well-written, practical explanations of the cardiovascular system

Ideal book for someone who already has a strong foundation and working knowledge on the cardiovascular system, but is looking for a well-written book that starts delving into the details that are important in actual practice. If you're looking for a text that dives into the numerous biochemical interactions with names you can only guess originated from some far-off universe, this is not the book for you. However, if you are looking for that middle ground between the standard medical student/nursing/paramedic textbook and texts devoted to the advanced studies in cardiology, you'll want to consider this one. Illustrations are simple but to the point. There are "Thought Questions" that are pertinent to clinical situations and really do help bind the concepts together. It's not a big book, but worth every penny in my opinion.

Yes, I have seen that shape on wanted posters"). Fueled by brisk dialogue and lively descriptions ("my heart sounded like woodpeckers in my ears"), the story moves as swiftly as a whitewater stream, carrying readers along for an exhilarating ride. It's not all thundering hooves and gunfire, however. Grade 3-6-An exciting novel set in the days of the California Gold Rush. After young Annyrose breaks her ankle, she is left with the evil O. O. Mary by her brother, who continues on to make his fortune in the mines. She is saved from this horrible fate by the Mexican bandit Joaquin Murieta, who has come for revenge against the people who murdered his family and stole his land. Thinking that Annyrose is a boy, Joaquin takes her along with his gang so that she can teach him to read. During her travels with the band, Annyrose gains an understanding of the injustices the ruthless bandits are avenging and becomes friends with Joaquin and the others despite her fears and objections. She alternately helps and hinders their endeavors and is ultimately reunited with her brother. Written in the style of an old Western, the book is full of lore and legend of the Old West. It is fun, fast, and wild, but there is a serious side to the story. In an author's note, readers learn that a Mexican bandit, Joaquin Murieta, became a legend as both a cutthroat and a Robin Hood-type figure. Fleischman makes Joaquin a sympathetic central character as he shows the injustices suffered by minorities during this time of greed and lawlessness. This is classic Sid Fleischman: a quick read, with lots of twists, wonderful phrasing, historical integrity, and a bit of the tall tale thrown in.

Gr. 3^-6. Most girls would be upset if a gang of bandits rode in, but Annyrose sees it as an improvement. Locked in a barn since she tried to run away from the villainous O. O. Mary, Annyrose pleads with the bandit called "Wakeen" to let her go along with the gang. Thinking she's a boy, Wakeen agrees to take her--provided she'll teach him to read so that he can find out what the gringos are saying about him on wanted posters and in the newspapers. Although Annyrose heartily disapproves of the gang's thievery and murder, she comes to realize that the bandits are only stealing what was taken from them when ruthless white settlers "wrote laws to pry off those with darker skins from the diggings." The message about bigotry forms the underpinnings of the book, but Fleischman couldn't write with a heavy hand if he tried. His rollicking humor (Annyrose and Wakeen are both surprised when they discover Wakeen's name is really spelled J-o-a-q-u-i-n), spicy writing style, and action-packed narrative make this a page-turner. Joaquin, of course, is the famous Mexican bandit Joaquin Murieta, and an afterword explains which parts of the story are true and which are fictionalized. Annyrose and Joaquin are equally likable, the setting is detailed and authentic, and the substantial story comes to a satisfying conclusion. Susan Dove Lempke

A fun adventure book.

Annyrose is just twelve years old, but she's already an orphan, and she's stranded with a mean, thieving old woman on a California ranch while her brother mines for gold. When a famous outlaw, Joaquin Murieta, attacks the ranch, the last thing Annyrose expects him to do is rescue her. But that's what he does. Annyrose is disguised as a boy, and Joaquin allows her to ride with him in exchange for reading lessons. Annyrose is determined to find her brother, though. Will she ever find him or is she stuck with the outlaws, whose thieving and murderous ways she dissaproves of? This action packed novel is a fun, quick read, and spunky Annyrose and the other characters jump from the pages and come alive. A great book.

This review is on a book called Bandit's Moon by Sid Fleishman. What I liked about this book is that the author described very well what was going on. You could imagine yourself being there. My favorite character was Annyrose because she never gave up on finding her long lost brother. She would also keep a secret and not tell anyone that she was a friend with a bandit. I would recommend this book to someone who likes adventures.

This book is about Annyrose Smith and her unusual friend Joaquin Murieta. Annyrose starts off living with a woman by the name of O. O. Mary who treats her worse than an animal. One day, O.O. Mary hears that Joaquin Murieta is coming and he's looking for her. O. O. Mary sets Annyrose loose to fend for herself, and O.O. Mary escapes from town. Joaquin happens upon Annyrose and mistaking her for a boy he takes her off on his bandit's adventures throughout California during the Gold Rush Period.
Annyrose is a proper, young girl who was raised to do the appropriate things. In the beginning of the novel, Joaquin and Annyrose understand very little about each other. It's interesting to watch their relationship grow througout the story.
All the girls (average age, 10) liked the story tremendously; however, they all felt that it had a slow beginning. I do believe that the character of Annyrose was a wonderful main character and girls can find a lot of strength in this character.

I first read this book in 1968. It was a truthful book then as it is today. Although it's not the only book written on this subject - and some others are more in depth, it is easy to understand and provides a good overview on the subject. I recommend it very highly.
