TRYING TO DO SOMETHING NEW MAKES THE BOOK HARD TO USE

I understand the the author is trying to do something new by melding essays with recipes, but the result is an overwrought, hard to use book.
I liked ( and use) Yockelson's earlier book, Baking by Flavor. That book was well organized and very easy to use, this new one, not so much.

Both the essays and recipe names/descriptions are presented in florid language that just tired me out before I even looked at the recipes
For me, the overwritten essays added nothing, and cute,over the top recipe names like " riot of ingredients break up " and " a 14 year old's rolls still tasty after all these years " told me very little about what I might be making.The book is divided into themes like "dreamyregal" and "contourfanciful" " lushexuberant" and those will not help me use this book. There is just too much cute fluff getting in the way of the recipes.

On the plus side, the book is beautifully designed and the numerous photos are very good, but the whole book is very aggressively PINK and girly.
This might make it even more appealing to some, but it seems to me this is a book destined to be looked at rather than taken into the kitchen and used.
For something more practical and easy to use, try Baking by Flavor.

Beautiful book, recipes don't play out.

I was so excited to get this book for Christmas. After looking at it in the store I had to hold myself back from buying it. It is a beautiful book with many excellent pictures and a little something more in the "baking diary" entries. However, I have made several recipes from the book and not one has turned out. The worst was the brownies I made. The recipe had many steps and used expensive ingredients. I made them exactly as the recipe said (including four hours of refrigeration time) and they turned out as a giant chocolate mushball! I am now afraid to waste time, energy and money on another of these recipes. All style and no substance I guess.

I was given this book as a holiday gift and just tried to use it yesterday. The organization of this book is an absolute nightmare. There is no rhyme or reason to how recipes are ordered and the chapter names just make no sense. What does 'Lush Exuberant' or 'Contour Fanciful' even mean? What kind of things would I find in these chapters? It is confusing to navigate and there is way too much stories and other cutesy stuff which gets in the way of actual recipes. As someone who loves to bake, I just found this book to be a major pain in the ass. If you're looking for something for baking from, find a better book.

Thanks for the $100 moving average crossover system

I like most of the books from Connors Research, but after getting this one I was a little underwhelmed that the strategy is just a simple moving average cross-over system of the VXX. It includes backtest results and information about the nature of VXX and it's relation to the VIX, but most of that is out on the web. I coded the system in Ninjatrader and my results didn't quite match up with the book's, but they were profitable but drawdown was larger than I would have liked, especially since 2015. Volatility and trend are your friends

Connors Research offers both mean reversion and trend following strategies, but the VXX Trend Following Strategy is (obviously) the latter. The hardest part about this strategy is to understand the VXX symbol that you are trading. The VXX simply holds a portfolio of VIX (Volatility Index) futures. You will want to dig in and understand what you are buying and this book takes several pages to walk you through the VXX.

There are several strengths to this strategy. The first is that you only need to follow one trading symbol, VXX. Second, the trade entry rules are extremely straight forward and you will be able to set this up in any free trading/charting platform. Third, this strategy takes both long and short trades. To be “long” you are betting on the price to go higher and to be “short” means you are betting on price to go lower. You must understand this concept as the VXX has a downward bias and 85% of the trades will be “short”. Since the VXX is negatively correlated to the stock market, when the VXX is going lower, the stock market is going higher. So, most of the trades will be when the VXX is declining in price. The one downside is that the VXX has only been around since 2009, so there is not a decade of data to back test, but the results are compelling enough to stay engaged and not abandon the strategy.

It is typical to see trend following strategies with a Win Rate of 30% and still be profitable, but this is emotionally difficult for the trader. The VXX Trend Following Strategy has a Win Rate of 45% (depending on what moving average variation you use.) This is more than acceptable for a trend following system if you have the emotional strength to take the trades, and with an Average Gain per trade around 3%, the trader should feel more confident with each trade.

Volatility is talked about a lot but few people explain how to turn talk into action. The VXX Trend Following Strategy provides rules that define exactly when to trade SPY based on volatility. The book is one of the very few that actually tells you how to trade volatility. Precise rules and back tested results allow you to trade with confidence. This is a valuable book that could pay for itself with 2 or 3 trades.

Best spiritual book I've ever read excluding the Bible!!

I can honestly say I've read a lot of spiritual books for a 20 year old in college, but I don't have enough faith to be an atheist beats them by a long shot. It's easy to understand, gives you the evidence and proves to you why the evidence is factual. I'm pretty speechless about this great book. If your an atheist, Christian, Muslim or anything I recommend this to you. It helps!! It really encouraged me in my walk with God. I have a greater conviction and am ready to fight this battle of doubt,sin and other beliefs.

This is an amazing book. It is at a level anyone can understand. Fantastic, scientific research to back the points they make against atheism. Helps a person with faith understand their belief and defend their faith. I am going to purchase one of these for my older son to read and hoping he will pass it on to his teenage son.

About the Author

Dr Alan D. Hemmings is a Canberra-based specialist on Antarctic governance and Adjunct Associate Professor at Gateway Antarctica at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. The author of a hundred plus articles on Antarctic affairs, he is also co-editor of Looking South: Australia’s Antarctic Agenda.

Donald R Rothwell is Professor of International Law at the ANU College of Law, Australian National University. His research on intersecting areas of international law has a focus on law of the sea, law of the polar regions, and implementation of international law within Australia.

Karen N. Scott is an�Associate Professor�in law at the University of Canterbury and researches and teaches in the areas of public international law, law of the sea and Antarctic law and policy. She is the Editor of the New Zealand Yearbook of International Law.
